Register now to earn double Marriott elite nights and bonus points on all paid stays

Editor’s note: We’ve updated this story with the most recent promotion.

If you’re striving for Marriott Bonvoy elite status this year, you may be concerned about meeting the elite night requirements. Luckily, Marriott Bonvoy just announced a new global promotion with bonus points and double elite night credits on eligible paid stays. Here’s what you need to know.

Marriott’s latest promotion

This promotion is available to Marriott Bonvoy members who register here. Once you register, you can earn 1,000 bonus points and one bonus elite night credit per eligible night stayed between Feb. 7 and April 23. Note that registration is currently rolling out to all Marriott members, so it may take a day or two before you can enroll.

Only nights stayed after you register will count toward this promotion. You can register starting Jan. 24, but you must register before April 9. My advice: Go ahead and register now.

Register here for Marriott’s newest promotion.

The number of bonus points and elite night credits you can earn through this promotion are unlimited. But, since you can stay at most 75 nights during this promotion, you can earn at most 75,000 bonus points and 75 bonus elite night credits.

You must book directly with Marriott to earn bonus points and elite night credits. Marriott notes, “Rates available through most third-party online retailers and select travel agency rates do not qualify for this promotion.” Additionally, award nights — including nights booked by redeeming Marriott points, Cash + Points awards and free night awards — aren’t eligible for this promotion.

Based on TPG’s valuation of Marriott points at 0.84 cents each, you’ll get a return of $8.40 per eligible paid night. But the real value of this promotion lies in the bonus elite night credits. With this promotion, you can earn elite night credits twice as fast.

For example, I have the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card, which each give me 15 elite night credits per year. I haven’t stayed any nights with Marriott yet this year, but my elite night credits sit at 30 since I have these two cards. So, I’d only need to stay 10 eligible paid nights during this promotion to reach 50 elite night credits for 2023 and qualify for Platinum Elite status. Or I could stay 23 eligible paid nights during this promotion and qualify for Titanium Elite status.

You can earn bonus Marriott points and elite night credits on eligible stays at most Marriott Bonvoy hotel brands. However, nights at the following aren’t eligible:

  • Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy.
  • Marriott Executive Apartments.
  • Owner-occupied weeks at Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Sheraton Vacation Club, Westin Vacation Club, The Ritz-Carlton Club, St. Regis Residence Club and Luxury Collection Residence Club.

Make sure you use a high-earning card when you pay for your stay. You could use a Marriott credit card, like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card, to earn Marriott points on your purchase. But I usually use my Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points on purchases at Marriott hotels, as I prefer earning transferable rewards on my stays.

Bottom line

Marriott’s latest global promotion represents an amazing offer. I recommend registering now, even if you don’t have upcoming Marriott stays on your calendar.

While the bonus points might not seem extraordinarily lucrative, the additional elite night credits are useful for those chasing Marriott status. You may even want to rebook some stays you’d previously booked using Marriott points or other hotel loyalty programs.
